August 11, Saturday: Kain Park Canoeing Lake Clean-ups Volunteer Work. Meet at boat launch at Lake Redman Activity Area. Two start times: 9am and 1pm. Call 717-840-7440 to register.  

September 22,Saturday: Raab Park Trail Work Volunteer Project at 9 am. Call 717-840-7440 to register.

October 6, Saturday: Nixon Park Habitat Tree Plantings Volunteer Project. Two start times: 9am and 2:30pm. Call 717-840-7440 to register. 

October 18, Thursday: York County Parks' 50th Anniversary Celebration Party from 5pm to 9pm at the Wyndham Garden York.  Join us for an evening of celebration! Enjoy a catered meal, silent auction and more. Your attendance will help the York County Parks fundraise for a new outdoor classroom in Nixon Park and other projects. Richard Louv, journalist and author or nine books including international bestseller, "Last Child in the Woods" will be speaking at the event. Pavilion Rentals

If you are looking for a natural space to enjoy a family gathering or company picnic, consider reserving a pavilion with the York County Department of Parks and Recreation!

The Department offers 29 pavilions available as rentals throughout the park system. Prices vary from $35 (weekdays) to $65 to $75 (weekends and holidays) depending on capacity, which ranges from 75 to 200 persons. 

Picnic pavilions are available from 8 a.m. to dusk, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance. Unreserved pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Amenities include charcoal grills, 110-volt electrical outlets, trails, ball fields, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts and horseshoes pits. Remember to provide your own equipment. Miscellaneous facilities available for rent include: Gazebos (Rudy or Kain), a stage at Kain, open space fields and sports fields. Pavilions and restrooms are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible.

Please bring trash bags with you. Dumpsters are located nearby for disposal. Parking at pavilions is strictly prohibited - only unloading and loading of vehicles is permitted.

(A seasonal position is employed for less than one year)


Maintenance Employee

This position is hired to help assist the maintenance workers in their daily jobs. This job consists of any of the following: cutting grass, trimming, painting, repairing, trail upkeep, fence installation, cleaning and general maintenance.

Assistant Manager of Natural Resources

Works with the Manager of Natural Resources to accomplish the following: Oversee all aspects of the Lake Redman Boat Rental, painting various gates or signs as needed, responsible for keeping all park bulletin boards up-to-date, Invasive plant control throughout the park system, boundary inspections as needed, perform various trail maintenance projects throughout the park system, gather park attendance numbers through the use of vehicle counters, oversee various volunteer groups to plant trees, litter pickup, painting and other projects.  Must be 16 years old or older and possess a valid PA driver’s license
 

Boat Attendant

A person qualified for this job must be able to: work well with the public, assist boat renters into and out of boats, work with minimal supervision, and run a cash register. This position requires the applicant to be 16 years of age or older, and able to work weekends.

Gardener

This seasonal position is part time. The gardener provides park wide maintenance of all landscaping of buildings and grounds. An individual must demonstrate practical landscape gardening experience and knowledge of nursery, greenhouse and bedding plants.

Seasonal Ranger

This position involves extensive public relations. Foot patrol will be performed especially within areas heavily visited by the public. Several duties that may be performed include: checking pavilions, collecting pavilion rental surveys, serving the public, and being available to answer question.

Seasonal Environmental Educator       

Nixon Park Seasonal Environmental Educator Job Description

This position is responsible for developing and implementing age appropriate lesson plans that include crafts, activities, hikes, canoe trips, snacks, songs, and more for 8 week-long summer programs for kids ages 3-13.  Other duties include assisting with public programs, staffing the nature center, and volunteer related operations.  This position requires first aid, CPR and AED certification as well as some college education.  Interested applicants please send cover letter, resume and County of York application to, Nixon Park at   atwolfgang@yorkcountypa.gov . The application deadline has been extended to Feb. 23, 2018.

Online Pavilion Rental System

Park Regulations

York County Parks operates 11 parks with over 4,500 acres, two museums, a nature center and a historic site. Please choose from the list at left to learn more about the specific parks or sites. Below is a listing of the general Parks rules.

  1. Parks are open from dawn to dusk, unless otherwise posted.
  2. Speed limit 25 miles per hour, unless otherwise posted. Operation of vehicles in
    reckless or negligent manner is prohibited.
  3. Pets and horseback riding is prohibited in Richard M. Nixon County Park.  Bikes are not permitted on trails in Nixon Park.   
  4. Park cars in designated parking areas. Please do not park on grass or in front of gates.
  5. Please don't be a "litterbug."
  6. Alcoholic beverages and narcotics are strictly prohibited.
  7. No peddling, soliciting, or posting of signs without authorization.
  8. Indecent language, excessively loud noise, disorderly conduct, immoral action,
    or nudity are not permitted.
  9. No fireworks or explosive devices unless authorized.
  10. Damaging, defacing or removing any plant, animal, natural feature, object, sign, structure, equipment,
    or other material is strictly prohibited.
  11. It is unlawful to catch, kill, wound, molest or do harm to any wildlife.
  12. Tabletop gas stoves are permitted at individual park tables. Charcoal stoves are not permitted due to disposal of hot coals.
  13. No swimming.
  14. No camping unless authorized.
  15. Equestrians, hikers and bicyclists must obey all trail signs.
  16. Boat launching in designated areas only (Lake Redman and Lake Williams).
  17. Disabled vehicles must be reported to Park Rangers immediately.
