State Health Insurance Assistance ProgramAPPRISE is the Pennsylvania State Health Insurance Assistance Program that provides assistance with understanding Medicare and Medicaid eligibility benefits, Medicare Prescription Drug Benefits, and Medicare supplemental insurance. Trained volunteers and staff also assist in filing appeals and grievances for denied services.

An APPRISE counselor from the York County Area Agency on Aging will be available in the community once a month from January through September to:

Apprise at Galleria

  • Help you understand Medicare benefits and services
  • Help you make informed choices about selecting a supplemental insurance
  • Help you understand how Medicaid works
  • Help you understand the Medicare Summary Notice
  • Help you with the appeal process and assist you with paperwork
  • Help you understand the different programs that are available for prescriptions drugs
  • Help you with benefits and programs you can use to save money

APPRISE volunteers are specially trained to answer your questions about Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap, prescription drugs, preventive care, and to assist you with your paperwork. The counselors have direct access to State and Federal Medicare information and resources.

Are you recently retired or considering retirement? If so, the Medicare Facts for New or Pre-Retirees seminar is for you!

FREE seminars will be presented by the York County Area Agency on Aging’s APPRISE Program. APPRISE is the state health insurance counseling program for all Medicare beneficiaries in Pennsylvania. Topics to be covered include:

• Medicare prescription drug coverage and the “Drug Plan Finder”

A FREE  seminar will take place on Thursday, May 28 from 6 to 9 p.m., in meeting room 148 of York County at Pleasant Valley Road, 2401 Pleasant Valley Road in York.
