Welcome to the website for the YC Area Agency on Aging

The primary focus of the York County Area Agency on Aging is to provide education, advocacy and coordination of community-based services to empower older adults to maximize their independence and quality of life.

When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, only 17 million living Americans had reached their 65th birthday. About a third of older Americans lived in poverty and there were few programs to meet their needs. President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens designated May as “Senior Citizens Month,” the prelude to “Older Americans Month.”  Every President since Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities.

The 2022 theme of Older Americans Month is "Age My Way," an opportunity to explore the many ways older adults can remain in and be involved with their communities.  This month at the York County Area Agency on Aging, we will be making special social media posts with facts, information, and fun activities that you can do to "Age My Way."  Follow us on FaceBook and join the celebration!
