Wallace-Cross Mill to Open Saturday

The Wallace-Cross Mill will be open from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 to celebrate the role of millers in York County.

Recently discovered milling records will be on display. Guides from the Friends of Wallace-Cross Mill will operate the mill machinery and interpret the mill’s history and importance to the local community while highlighting the miller’s skills.

Anyone with a geographic, family, or historical connection to milling is invited to attend and register their association during this event.

Wallace-Cross Mill is one of the few water-powered grist mills remaining in York County. The mill was built in 1826 and operated continuously until the 1980s. The Wallace-Cross Mill is listed both on the Pennsylvania Inventory of Historic Places and the National Registry of Historic Places.

It is located on Cross Mill Road, off Church Road in East Hopewell Township. Admission to the mill is free, but donations are accepted. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Cross Mill and will be used for ongoing restoration and interpretation projects.
