Learn About The Susquehanna With "Rocks & River" Hike

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation and Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will team up for a “Rocks and the River” hike at Chickies Rock County Park from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26.

The 1-mile hike will begin at the Breezy View Overlook just off of Pa. Rte. 441 north of Columbia. Participants will walk down a steep hill to the Susquehanna Heritage Trail.

Lancaster County Parks Naturalist Mary Ann Schlegel and York County Parks Program Coordinator Jeri Jones will discuss the Susquehanna River, the area’s geology and the reason why Chickies Rock is a favorite among geologists. The 19th century iron industry also will be highlighted along the way.

Participants will be van-pooled back to Breezy View Overlook at the end of the program. The program is recommended for children ages 8 and older. Please register for this free program by calling Nixon County Park at 428-1961.
