Learn The Keys To Healthy Aging At Free Workshops

The York County Area Agency on Aging will host free educational workshops to learn about the “10-KeysTM to Healthy Aging.” The workshops will be taught by certified Health Ambassadors and APPRISE Counselors through the Area Agency on Aging.

Developed by the Center for Aging and Population Health at the University of Pittsburgh, along with the CDC SeniorGames1Prevention Research Center, this health promotion program provides many no-cost and low-cost preventative services to promote successful aging.

Each of the “10 Keys”TM is an important step in preventing disease and improving quality of life. They include:
1. Lowering systolic blood pressure
2. Stopping smoking
3. Participating in cancer screenings
4. Getting immunized regularly
5. Regulating blood glucose
6. Lowering LDL cholesterol
7. Being physically active
8. Maintaining healthy bones, joints and muscles
9. Maintaining social contact
10. Combating depression

A resource manual will be provided which provides a wealth of information on preventative, proven strategies that work.

The free workshops will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday beginning April 6 through May 4. The meetings will take place at Windy Hill on the Campus, 1472 Roth’s Church Road, Suite 103 in Spring Grove. Pre-registration is required by March 30.
