Upcoming Classes Meant To Combat Risk of Falls

The York County Area Agency on Aging will host classes for people to learn how to manage the risk of falling and increase activity levels. The free classes are part of an award-winning series called “A Matter of Balance.”

Matter of Balance is meant for people who have concerns about falling, have fallen in the past, have restricted their activities because of falling concerns or are interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength.

This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. Participants will learn to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

Two series of classes are being offered.

The first series will be held at the York Township Park Building, Oak Street in York Township on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The classes begin Feb. 22 and will run through March 16. Pre-registration is required by Feb. 16.

The second series of classes will be held at the at the West Manchester Township building, 380 East Berlin Road. The classes will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from March 1 to March 24. Pre-registration for this series is Feb. 23.
