Recommended Restrictions on Conewago Creek Lifted

The York County Board of Commissioners effective immediately is lifting the fishing, boating and swimming restrictions recommended last month following the fire at Miller Chemical and Fertilizer in Conewago Township, Adams County.

The Commissioners’ recommended restrictions were put in place due to contamination of the creek following the June 8 fire at Miller Chemical.

The Department of Environmental Protection today advised the Commissioners, through the Office of Emergency Management, that it would be appropriate to lift the recommended restrictions based on testing of creek water samples.

“The Conewago Creek is an important recreational asset to our community,” said President Commissioner Steve Chronister. “We’re pleased to lift these recommendations in advance of the holiday weekend.”
