One Marketway West Sale To Be Completed

The County of York on Thursday is expected to complete the sale of the One Marketway West building on Continental Square in downtown York City.

The Board of Commissioners today authorized President Commissioner Steve Chronister and Solicitor Mike Flannelly to execute all documents associated with the sale of the building. Settlement is expected Thursday for at a price of $780,000. The buyer is One West, LLC.

“This is an excellent deal for taxpayers because it eliminates our responsibility to manage the building and generates a fair purchase price,” Chronister said. “But perhaps most importantly over the long term, it puts One Marketway West into the hands of an owner passionate about its revitalization. With the right vision, the building has the potential to serve as a major part of the ongoing revitalization of Continental Square and downtown York.”

The County took possession of the building in 2013 following a default in mortgage payment by H.W. York Properties, LLC. The company purchased the building from the County in 2002 and stopped making payments as of June 2012.

The Commissioners later that year approved the sale of the building. The County has continued to manage the building while the buyer completed due diligence on the property.

The largely vacant, mixed-use building currently has 8 tenants. It has 140,722 square feet, according to Assessment records.
