Expect Delays on West Philadelphia Street Bridge

The York County Commissioners today announced upcoming construction work on the bridge that carries West Philadelphia Street over the Codorus Creek in York City.

Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to begin during the week of March 30 and continue through early November.

One lane of traffic will be maintained throughout most of the project, although motorists may encounter temporary overnight closures during certain portions of the work.

Drivers should consider taking alternate routes during the work period to avoid delays. Motorists should be alert to the work zone and slow down when approaching.

The project calls for replacement of the deteriorating bridge deck and related components.

Dauphin County-based Deblin, Inc. was awarded a $1.6 million contract for the construction work, with the bulk of funding coming from the federal (80 percent) and state governments (15 percent). The remaining 5 percent will come from County liquid fuels funding, which is generated through fuel tax.

An estimated 12,564 vehicles travel the bridge daily.
