Tour A 19th Century Iron Mine on Saturday, Sept. 20

Tour the 19th-century York Iron Company Mine during the York County Department of Parks and Recreation’s “History and Mystery of Raab County Park” hike from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014.raab hike

Discover how miners extracted the rich iron ore out of the ground and transported the ore to area furnaces. Learn about a miner’s life during the 1800s. Also, see how the York County Parks has installed bat doors over the shafts to protect the bat population.

Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes and dress for the weather. Anyone entering the mine shaft is required to have a flashlight.
