Learn To Manage The Risk Of Falling

The York County Area Agency on Aging beginning next month will host classes for people to learn how to manage the risk of falling and increase activity levels. The free classes are part of an award-winning series called “A Matter of Balance.”

Matter of Balance is meant for people who have concerns about falling, have fallen in the past, have restricted their activities because of falling concerns or are interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength.
This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. Participants will learn to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

Two series of classes are being offered; both will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The first series begins Feb. 24 and will run through March 19. Pre-registration is required by Feb. 18.

The second series of classes will run from March 31 to April 23. Pre-registration for this series is March 24.
Both series of classes will take place at the York Township Park Building, Oak Street in York Township.
