Area Agency On Aging Recognizes Volunteers

Bob Gohn, Sandra Ricci, and Belle Eyster have been named Volunteers of the Month by the York County Area Agency on Aging for their ongoing service and dedication to the agency and York County’s older adults.

Gohn enjoys volunteering for the APPRISE program, where he assists Medicare beneficiaries with their Medicare insurance options, he said. He feels there are a lot of people in York that can benefit from APPRISE counseling and there is a need for more volunteers.

Bob feels blessed to be able to share his knowledge to help others in need, he said. He also volunteers for several other organizations and has met a lot of wonderful people to lead and support him.

As a retiree from the federal government and wife of a Navy sailor, Ricci said she enjoys meeting new people and going to new places. As a friendly visitor she looks forward to the visits she makes to homebound elderly people as much as the people she visits with do, she said.

“The friendly visitor program is so rewarding and makes a real difference in someone’s life, it also makes me feel good” she said.

Following in her grandmother’s footsteps, Belle Eyster said she’s a big believer of giving of her time and has made volunteering a big part of her life. As a Judicial Center tour guide, she has met fascinating people and always learns something new.

Eyster said she’s grateful for the services the Area Agency on Aging provides to the older adults in her life and others in York County.

She encourages others to “volunteer your time, no matter how much or how little, it’s appreciated. You will get out of it what you put into it, guaranteed.”
