Area Agency on Aging Recognizes Volunteers Of The Month

Ann Hetrick, Janelle Klinedinst and Mary Smith have been named Volunteers of the Month by the York County Area Agency on Aging for their ongoing service and dedication to the agency and York County’s older adults.

Ann Hetrick has enjoyed volunteering as a financial counselor in the past and more recently providing general office assistance. She has helped with Fruit and Vegetable Voucher distribution, tax appointment scheduling and various clerical activities. Ann believes that whatever you put into the service for others, you will reap great happiness and feel you’ve accomplished something special for these persons. Ann stays busy with many other organizations including the Red Hatters and Red Lion Senior Center.

After raising 4 children, working part time and caring for her mother, Janelle Klinedinst decided to pursue volunteering for the York County Area Agency on Aging. Janelle provides general office assistance for the agency and also volunteers as an APPRISE counselor. In her role as an APPRISE counselor she answers questions and provides assistance to Medicare beneficiaries. Janelle encourages new volunteers to have patience and a willingness to learn and accept new challenges.

Mary Smith comes from a very giving family that demonstrated the importance of giving back to the community. While employed in a physician’s office Mary met many people and learned to listen for ways to help them. As a teacher she demonstrated to young people the value of both listening and helping. Mary enjoys volunteering in the telephone reassurance program, which supports her skill of listening. “I encourage new volunteers to try to find ways to help no matter where the journey takes you” she said.
