2013 Senior Excursions Scheduled

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce it again will sponsor Senior Excursions in the parks. These rides are designed to transport persons of limited mobility through the parks to see their natural beauty and hear about local history.

Participants are transported by the “People Mover,” a trailer pulled by a pickup truck. Each ride is narrated by Parks Program Coordinator Jeri Jones. Participants should dress for the weather. In the event of rain, Parks staff will cancel the trip. The scheduled rides, times, cost and duration are as follows:

  • Thursday, June 20: Brillhart Station Parking Area, Days Mill Road, Rail Trail County Park. Departures at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Cost is $8 per person. Ride duration: 75 minutes. Pass through Howard Tunnel, the country’s oldest stone-arch tunnel along an active railroad.
  • Thursday, October 10: Spring Valley County Park, Animal Activity Area. Departures at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Cost is $8 per person. Ride Duration is 75 minutes. Be escorted through this pristine, rural section of York County and the home of the famous “Hex Murder.” The 6 p.m. ride will end in darkness.
