Q. How do I find out if I am registered to vote?

A. Call the York County Voter Registration Office at 771-9604.

Q. When are the polling places open?

A. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day. 

Q. How do I register to vote?

A. Visit our forms page. A list of forms that can be downloaded will appear. Select the "Pennsylvania Voter Registration Form", download the form, and complete and sign the form. On the top of the form check the box for new registration. Mail the completed and signed form to:

Q. How do I change my name, address, or political party?

A. Visit our forms page. A list of forms that can be downloaded will appear. Select the "Pennsylvania Voter Registration Form", download the form, and complete and sign the form. On the top of the form check the correct boxes for change of name, address, or party. Mail the completed and signed form to:

Q. How do I vote by absentee ballot?

A. In order to vote by absentee ballot, you must be registered to vote and an "Absentee Ballot Application" must be completed and submitted to the York County Office of Elections/Voter Registration. To get an absentee ballot application, visit our forms page. A list of forms that can be downloaded will appear. Select and download the "Absentee Ballot Application". Complete the application and sign it. Mail the completed and signed absentee ballot application to:

After we receive a completed and signed, "absentee ballot application, a ballot will be mailed to you. (Note: A new absentee ballot application must be completed for each election.)

Q. Where do I go to vote?

A. Visit our polling places page. On the first page of the "York County Polling Places" page you will need to select whether you live in York City, a township, or a borough. Depending on which of these three items you select, a list of polling places will appear. The City of York is listed by ward and precinct (if applicable). Select the correct ward and precinct if applicable from the list and you will find your polling place. Townships and boroughs are listed in alphabetical order. Find your township and borough using the appropriate precinct, district, or ward when applicable and you will find the name and address of your polling place.

Q. What if I don’t know my district, ward, or precinct?

A. Please call us at 771-9604 or or use our online contact us form. We will be glad to help.

Q. How do I work at the polls?

A. Visit our forms page. Download a "We Need You!" form. Complete the form and return the completed form to:

We will place your name on the list of available workers for the polling place in which you vote. If an opening occurs for a worker at your polling place, you will be considered.

Q. Do forms ever get lost?

A. Yes, between the time a form leaves your hands and arrives at the York County Office of Elections/Voter Registration, many things can happen. If you do not receive a response to a form or letter that you send to us within 2 weeks, please call us at 771-9604 or use our online contact us form.

Q. If I lose my voter registration card or it gets damaged, how do I get a new card?

A. Call the York County Office of Elections/Voter Registration at 771-9604 and we will issue a new card.

Q. If someone dies, how can I have their name removed from the voter registration rolls?

A. Visit our forms page. Download a "Deceased Family Member” form and return the completed form with the appropriate document to the York County Office of Elections/Voter Registration.

Q. If I am considered a "first time voter", how do I know what kind of identification to bring to the polls when I go to vote?

A. Visit our forms page. Open the item titled "Identification Requirements for First Time Voters". In this section you will find a list of both photo and non-photo forms of identification that will be accepted at the polls.

Q. If I have a question about a candidate such as "What do they stand for?" whom do I call?

A. Look up the name of the candidate or the candidate's headquarters in the Telephone book and call the number shown. If you cannot find the telephone number, call us at 771-9604 and we will try to help you locate a telephone number. Sometimes the candidate's political party headquarters can help you.

Q. If I have a question about a political party such as "What do they stand for?" whom do I call?

A. Look up the name of the Political Party in the telephone book and call the party headquarters at the number shown. If you cannot find the telephone number, call us at 771-9604 and we will try to help you locate a telephone number.

Q. How do I remove my name from the list of voters?

A. Send a letter directing us to remove your name. Send the letter to:
