WHERE ARE BIRTH AND DEATH CERTIFICATES STORED?

The Department of Health, Division of Vital Records, 101 S. Mercer St, New Castle, PA 16101 keeps all birth and death records after 1906. Telephone 1-877-PA-HEALTH or 724-656-3100.

Birth and Death records from 1893 through 1906 are maintained by the Clerk of Orphans’ Court  in the County Archives, 150 Pleasant Acres Road, York, PA 17402, Telephone 717-840-7222, or e-mail:archives@yorkcountypa.gov

HOW CAN I GET A COPY OF A BIRTH OR DEATH CERTIFICATE?

You may pick up an application at the Orphans' Court Office, 45 North George St., York, PA 17401.

If an emergency arises, use American Express, Visa, Master Card or Discover by phone or fax. Call the Division of Vital Records at 724-656-3100, or fax 724-652-8951, for more information regarding fees for this service.

The Department of Health provides certified copies at a minimal fee.

For request by Priority, Express or 1st Class Mail send check or money order payable to Vital Records, enclose a legal size, self-addressed envelope for return of copies and mail to:

The Department of Health, Division of Vital Records has a walk-in service for birth records in the Commonwealth Health and Welfare Building, 555 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, PA. Office hours are 8 a.m. through 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For additional information call 717-772-3480.
